The Tiger a most majestic animal - Big Cat Beauties of Nature

TIGERS have fascinated people all over the world.

In the Chinese zodiac, this is the Year of the Tiger — You see, each year of the Chinese lunar calendar is associated with an animal. There are 12 animals with each animal reflecting key characteristics that are likely to dominant that year.

While many Asian countries having been celebrating 2010 as the Year of the Tiger which began February 14, of this year. These beautiful big cats are under an extreme threat of extinction. As few as 3,500 tigers exist in the wild in Asia where they are threatened by poaching, illegal trafficking, habitat loss & climate changes .

There are 6 out of 9 species of tigers left on Earth. All 6 of these remaining species are considered to be endangered. Most of the species have less than 1,000 of them remaining. Believe it or not, but there are more tigers in captivity then in the wild. Recent studies estimates that between 3,500 and 5,000 remain in the wild. While, roughly 8,000+ are in captivity ( Zoos, conservations, reserves, circus, etc.,). An undertimed number are also being privately kept by regular citizens worldwide as pets. As with many states here in the US, the government has few regulations on individuals keeping tigers in captivity, who owns them, how their treated, where they are, or what happens to them when they die.

3 tiger sub-species have gone extinct since the 1940s and a 4th, the South China tiger, has not been seen in the wild in over 25 years. With an entire population of tigers, that has become an international scandal, vanishing from a forest sanctuary (Sariska Tiger Reserve) in the Indian state of Rajasthan because of poaching. With illegal trafficking in tiger bones, furs and skins suppling demands in much of Asia. The future for these animals does not look very promising.

As one of the most majestic animals on the planet, it hard to swallow that these Big cat beauties of nature are on the verge of extinction. The Sumatran tiger will disappear in a few years unless poaching, trading and the destruction of its forest habitat are halted immediately. The reason for these acts are not just pouchers selfish greed of money (which does account for hugh portion to these tigers extinction. For some villages in different parts of the world it is their only source of income), but many anicent customs such as the use of tiger parts in medicine contribute to the demand in the black market arena. Some using their heads as trophies, their fur as rugs and/or wall hangers. The chopping down of forests so the tigers can not survive also a factor.

Experts are seeing a last glimmer of hope, only if conservation and protection are implemted and enforced. Also thought has to be into protection against inbreeding so that the genetic pool of these animals are not compromised in the process.

WWF is releasing a new interactive map of the world's top 10 tiger trouble spots www.worldwildlife.org/troublespots and the main threats against tigers. WWF is also launching a campaign: Tx2: Double or Nothing to support tiger range states in their goal of doubling wild tiger numbers by the next Year of the Tiger in 2022.

Mike Baltzer, Leader of WWF's Tiger Initiative says "Tigers are being persecuted across their range -- poisoned, trapped, snared, shot and squeezed out of their homes. But there is hope for them in this Year of the Tiger. There has never been such a committed, ambitious, high-level commitment from governments to double wild tiger numbers. They have set the bar high and we hope for the sake of tigers and people that they reach it."

A recent meeting leading up to the Vladivostok Summit held in Hua Hin, Thailand, has all 13 tiger range countries committed to the goal of doubling tiger numbers by 2022. This Summit will be co-hosted by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and World Bank President Robert Zoellick. WWF and other members of the Global Tiger Initiative are also sure to assist in all areas to ensure that this goal is fulfilled.

"We may not get another opportunity like this with so much political will from the tiger range countries and attention from so many institutions and people around the world," said Sybille Klenzendorf, Director of the WWF-US Species Program. "The situation for tigers is a sobering one, but if we seize this moment and maintain it for the long term, the next Year of the Tiger may give us real reason to celebrate

INTERESTING FACTS:

  • The tiger is one the largest of the four big cats,

  • Tigers tend to be loners.

  • They tend to go their own ways except when mating. A female can produce up to 4 cubs approx. 16 weeks after conception. Her cubs are born blind. While nursing milk from the female up to 8 weeks. Another issue is that less than half of their offspring live to be 2 yeas of age, Those that do survive usually live about 10 - 15 years in the wild. In captivity they can live about 20 years on average. Tigers have fully developed canines by 16 months of age. They have the largest canine teeth of all land-eating animals.

  • As with lions, male tigers may kill a female's cubs if the cubs are the offspring of another male. This ensures that the female will come into oestrus and bear the new male's offspring. Cubs will stay with their mothers up to 24 months at which time they will set out to find their own territories.

  • A mother will have to bring back to her den up to 3 times the amount of food she normally gathers.

  • The patterns of stripes help to identify themselves just like human's fingerprints. Tigers can come in black, with white and yellow stripes. The stripes also help them to camouflage during the day or night, while lighter shades in snowy places. The Sumatran tiger has the most stripes of all the tiger subspecies while the Siberian tiger has the fewest.

  • Their whiskers are sensitive to help them to avoid rocks, trees and othe obstacles.

  • They can live in different types of environments..... jungles, swamps, forest, cold & snow! In the winter a tiger can doubles its fur coat. Tigers can swims in lakes and water holes.

  • Their night vision can be 6 times better than that of humans, this aids them to hunt at night. Sleeping animals are easier to hunt. Tigers are extremely calculated when it comes to hunting. But it may take them 15-20 attempts to get one meal, because other animals runs almost as fast as them.

  • Tigers are capable of leaping more than 30 feet, an added advantage when it comes to finding and attacking their prey. Biting its prey in the nerve cord on the spine. Klling their quickly: Their main diet includes large animals such as: antelope, deer, buffalo and wild pigs, but they will also hunt fish, monkeys, birds, reptiles and even baby elephants. Occasionally, tigers kill other tigers, leopards and even bears.

Like a child.......for Mother Earth

"We, the peoples of the United Nations, determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal right of men and women and of nations large and small....And for these ends to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbors...have resolved to combine our efforts to accomplish these aims."

"Whether humanity will consciously follow the law of love, I do not know. But that need not disturb me. The law will work just as the law of gravitation works, whether we accept it or not. The person who discovered the law of love was a far greater scientist than any of our modern scientists. Only our explorations have not gone far enough and so it is not possible for everyone to see all its workings."

What a wonderful world.......

My last few post have included an ugly side of earth......what remains of humans selfishness to abid by natures true beauty. Sometimes we must see, experience the negative to fully understand and enjoy the real beauty this planet provides us.

Almost three entire months has past, and I pray that this latest attempt to suppress the oil spill in gulf is successful. What will be left is to minimize the environmental damage to this regions. Which sad to say, will take years if not decades (look at the 1989 Alaska Exxon Valdez oil spill) to recover from. The real question, that only time will answer is......what true damage was done?

Let us remember that old quote ~

Worst environmental disaster? What will we learn this time.......

It is 77 days into an event, that stands to cause the worst environmental camality we humans have cause our planet, since.....well, the atom bomb!

While the powers to be, dribble back & forth....who's to blame, what actions to take, testing skimmer ships (why do we need to test ships build to do the very thing their build for????). This region of water & wildlife continues to deteriorate.

I am in awe, at these lack of urgency towards this leak, especially after 77 days! After thousands of wildlife deaths & millions of gallons of pollutants contaminating our waters.

  • Is anyone really monitoring the air quality in the area or its effects?

  • What about the underwater plump?
When does BP, decide that they need to cap this well, as oppose to trying to salvage it.  I'm a believer that it is the responsibilty of the company for its own mess. As well, as the consequences for their companies actions.

In this case, pertaining to the earlier days of the accident, I do feel that it should have allowed BP to do it job in containing and correcting its own clean-up.

I know that I wouldn't want an outsider coming into my business, telling me what to do. We have laws that would fine and/or imprison me for what infringments my companies causes. Which I sure BP will become privy to.

But, it comes a time when the government has to step in an command action. WOW, 77 days!

Of course, we do have to understand that these are the same people that have shares or investments in said company. So part of whats coming on is in fact, greed!

We ALL.... are going to have pay, in some form or another. What we take from these events will I hope not only teach us some lessons on how fragile life really is but hopefully prevent another disaster that could very well cripple wildlife and human life.

I do applaud, the many volunteers, all the activist that have sat out on their mission to do what they can to assist in this environmental emergency, our hats off to you!

MJ........also had L ♥ V E for Life!

One year ago, the world was receivimg comfirmation, that Michael Jackson had indeed, past on. Like many across this planet, where he had touch so many, I too, felt a sense of great loss.

In my lifetime, this human being, who I never got to meet in person, nor see in a  live show. Was in fact, a part of my lifehood. From the time, I danced off his music in an talent show (3rd gr.) thru my high school years, where the LP  "Off the Wall"  was in fact, off the wall!    Thru my early days of DJing and I was sure to be entertained by his latest groundbreaking video releases...

"Thriller"  "Remember the Time"  "Smooth Criminal"

He is, simply, a "GREAT Entertainer"This is his gift, this is, in part, what made him, Michael Jackson.
As some media outlets, would like to stir up the kettle with drama & scandel. To me, Micheal Jackson entertained me completely!

"I don't care about the negative or inflamed bio version of this human being life.
What he left is a wonderful legacy, full of  musical, visual inspriration with a side of mystery"

What he left  to humanity......?
"We are The World" & "Earth Song"

This is how I chose to see & respect this human being. May the Angels wings shield & protect his children.....Paris, Prince & Blanket and the amazing life he gave to us.

Day 60 ~ Potential worldwide ruination, while the powers to be place blame.

Yes, I watched those hearings the other day (BP). And, well.....interesting to say the least! BPs CEO Tony Hayward refuses to accept full responsiblity??? Even though they had the questions that were to be ask in advance, he still refuse to answer alot of them. Acting as if he didn't have or know the answer. I believe a congressperson even call it, for what it was....Stonewalling! Though he did acknowledge that he regrets the impact of their oil spill has had on the gulf region. It almost seemed like he really believes his company is not responsible for this disaster.

Just goes to show the irrogance of humans when it come to responsiblity to protect earth. Man continues to act as if he is the big boss, as if he is has the power of the universe.

It's been two months, and an obvious serious environmental issue plaques the oceans that sustain our very lives. And those that should be stepping up to the plate, are lollygagging as a potential worldwide ruination
of our planet sits at our doorstep.

Containment progress slow as environmental & wildlife danger grows

I know that this Oil spill is without a doubt a very serious matter. I do not wish to disrespect anyone or anything in light of the potential negative aftermath surrounding the disaster. But,  I have to say when watching this video, I could not help but picture them  (BP) as they look at how in (hind-sight) their actions look now!

Sorry,  you have to admit, it not only touches the funny bone, but there is a slight message to BP in this as well.

Funny skit on BPs Think tank

Day 55 ~ Its Sunday, so I'm going to have to take you all to Church for a bit

Not that I am going to push any faith onto anyone. But I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. I also believe that we can only take so much from this planet before something has to give.

After millions of years in development, EARTH, has provided us with all that we need to survive. That everything was in its place to sustain ALL of her (earths) inhabitants. But, our greed & ignorance have impacted this planet in such way, that it is really unpredicable what our true outcome will be.

No matter how you want to look at it, whether from a religious stand point or simply common sense. One can not keep taken from and not give back without expecting it to be abused, cut-off or depleted.

FACT ~ The RAINFORESTS at one time,  roughly covered 14% of this planets land mass; today approx. 6% remains and could very well be depleted within our children lifetime.

Whats really disturbing,  is these are well  documented facts. We humans proceed to act as if she will continue to provide for us. We can not be that blind..or can we????

I am a regular to the Animal Planet & Discovery Channel . Tonight, my son & I were watching Whale Wars . Now, it clear that whales are an endangered wildlife, but despite the clear knowledge about these animals, countries such as Japan still feels it Ok to kill 50 (thats their quota ~ 825 minke whales and 50 sperm whales every year for ten years) sperm whales under a scientific permit.  A  proposal they issued to themself for  science experiments. So, they say!

But, if you know something is on the verge of extinction, why than would you proceed to kill more???

Talk about human Greed & ignorance!

This video, I just had to put up to represent ~
If you don't believe in something, you are sure to fall for anything. Does this oil spill resemble biblical prophesy? Can that redish of the oil sheen be interpreted as blood?

Whatever your belief, as humans we should be ashamed for not seeing the potential
for disaster long before the Great Gulf Oil spill! I believe at the very least,
this should be a wake-up call

This weekend BP was issue a statement by the US Coast Guard, to come up with plan that would speed up this oil recovery/plug. This has to be turn over by Monday (they originally had 48hrs) BPs response was "We will double our efforts" ??? My reaction was, double your effort as oppose to what. Its going on day 56, shouldn't they already be in like triple speed mode????

Things that make you go uummm?

I just had to add some conspiracy to the mix. So I found this. I wouldn't
take it to lightly though, cause you never know.
When we least suspect it........

I would like to send my thoughts, prayer & condolences to the families & friends of those who lost their lives in this weekends flash floods that swept through an Arkansas Campground

Day 53 ~ We must get back to the beauty of our planet

The last couple of entries has really put a emphasis on what we as human being can do to this planet.

How much more can we do to damage the very planet that sustains all our species of life. I am constantly amazed with all the intelligence we as humans have been gifted with, we still clouds our minds with such greed & ignorance.

First, the latest estimates on the amount of oil pouring into the Gulf is now 5x that of originally forecasted by BP. This does not include the re-calculations based upon the new High definition (HD) camaras now being viewed by scientist. Which could mean 42 million to 84 million gallons of oil has been leaking  into the Gulf of Mexico.

Many times in my life, when I was heading down the wrong path, I received signs. Now, I am not talking burning bush type signs, but little hints that I needed to try a different avenue. Choose a differnt way of doing something. This oil spill, I pray is a sign to us, that we have got to back ourselve up. And reevaluate what we are doing to this planet.

The prudential for this disaster to reach catastrophic proportion is knocking at our door.
How many more of these corperate sponsored disaster will it take before this planet is put into an out of control tail spin towards an apocalyptic event.

Now, after a few days of these entries, its easy to get lost in all the negativity of these oil spill. This is an ulgy sight, thats for sure. The sooner we get this under control the better, thats for sure.
But, lets not forget the beauty that must be shown, so that we can get an understanding about what we could be losing. What we are destroying. What we are tearing apart from our childrens future. The fact remains, is this is the only planet we know, that we have access to, that sustain our way of living.  "I guess now, we just need to figure out how to live in a way that is sustainable to our planet"

On day 52

The fact of the matter is that today, stuff-selling mega-corporations have a huge influence on our daily lives. And because of the competitive nature of our global economy, these corporations are generally only concerned with one thing - the bottom line. That is, maximizing profit, regardless of the social or environmental costs.~ David Suzuk

Day ~ 48 Spill, reaching coast of Alabama, Louisiana & Florida

 Search Amazon.com for Going green

I continue to see BP's effort to siphon off as much of this oil as possible.

So lets see, They manage to get a cap on (containment cap), even though this cap has valve (vents) that could open & close. They were not able to get a cap on that would stop the flow completely???
I'm not going conspiracy theory on this, but it looks to me like once again, greed is the driving force here.

So, as thousands of gallons of oil is siphoned on to waiting ships. Around 10,00+ barrel a day. 3/4 of the oil gushing out of this well is still spilling aimlessly into the Gulf. I sure that they really want to stop this leak. But i"m pretty sure there are a handful of top executive that have pressure some to do just that, recover as oil as possible, while proceeding to cap off this well.

Meanwhile, it will be months (August) before a permanent stop to this massive leak is expected! Is it just me, or does this seem a bit unacceptable, due to the amount of oil leaking each day! You mean to tell me that they want to have this well spewing oil for several more months into the Gulf??? I'm just not getting this.

Now I would like to tip my hat to those who have volunteered, the many thousands, who are down there to help.......in the Gulf, on the beaches and providing support. This is a daunting task on a mega scale, but your principal goal is to protect the ocean, lands & wildlife cause by this disaster. And we salute you all!
THANK YOU :^)

This is the kind of damage we have done to this planet within the last 200 ~ 300 years. Think it's getting any better.
I know I wont be around another 200 years, but my Great~grandkids will be. What will we leave them. How many Lions, Tigers or Whales will be living in their natural habitat? Greed & ignorance will surely destroy this planet!

Day 44 ~ Affects of oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico

Gulf oil spill now reaching Alabama, Misssissippi. May hit Florida next week.

The affects of oil spills on the marine environment has been carefully documented, especially since the Exxon Valdez spill in 1989. The oil that enter the ocean can come from different sources, accidental spills or leaks.

When oil is spilled like the one in the gulf , most of the volatile compounds evaporate quickly. The oil, however, remains floating on the surface of the water, and starts to disperse, forming a very thin film which can cover large areas of water.

One of the major concerns with this oil spills, is the effect on marine life. Which is essentially suffocating the plants and animals. Oil prevents oxygen and water exchange, causing the plants to die. Oil on the flesh of birds & mammals can literally kill them through suffocation. This layer of oil on birds feather or furry mammals like otters & seals can also strip away the birds water resistant coating. Including making it hard for them to fly. Clams, mussels & oysters can quickly accumulate toxins which can kill the animals or passed it up the food chain.

Oil spills disrupt the ability to breed, reproduce, grow, or perform other vital functions. These toxins can also cause cancers and other illnesses in the long term. This spill puts at risk such endangered species as Kemp's ridley sea turtles & Atlantic bluefin tuna, as well as the Gulf of Mexico's 8,300 other creatures from plankton to birds.
Expects say that on the seabed, where this oil has been spewing since April, is cold, around 40 degrees. Which won't allow the bacteria that breaksdown oil naturally as it would if were in shallower waters.

* Top Kill" appears to NOT have worked!

As, I watched BP's news conference yesterday, It appears that they were saying a whole lot of nothing. For good reason, this new attempt to stop this oil spill has apparently failed.

I guess it was a good attempt, but I had suspected with pressure needed to force that oil back would be quite difficult. And now, they are on to another plan, which by the way will be another 4days to one week.

I still have a hard time understanding Why this major oil company didn't have an emergency plan for this type of accident.
With so much profit that they bring in, the technology &; brain power at they disposal......WHY!

We pray, for the sake of all the people & wildlife of that region, that they produce a positive outcome with this attempt.

Wishng all a wonderful Memorial Day Holiday

What a complete mess! 37 days & counting.....

In the last few days as we wait to see if and when this "Top Kill" will work. (Apparently, its not) We've learn that this is in fact, the largest oil spill recorded! Almost 2-3 times that of Esson Veldez and steady climbing. Estimated 17,000 - 39,000 million gallon to date, where BP's est. was at 11 million. So of course, the companies not going to give off the worse case estimate. They want to protect their brand name. It will however , bite them in the butt in the days & years to come. Because it will all come forth, in the inquires that will be sure to follow.

Still the impact of this on the enviroment will be unspeakable. The lost of wildlife, economics and even the political ramifications will sure endure long after they plug this leak.

N.W.F. reports about 150 threatened or endangered sea turtles are dead. Some 316 sea birds, mostly brown pelicans & northern gannets, have been found dead along the Gulf Coast as a result of the spreading oil. I've heard about some endanger turtles that had to be relocated. This is still in the early stages of a major on-going disaster.

Gulf of Mexico Oil spill....Wake-up call? The signs for change???

So , it's been 37 days of continous oil flow into the Gulf of Mexico. A few weeks ago I made a comment on My Facebook page.
"Its been 20+ days yet, oil is still leaking into the gulf. Perhaps if BP would concentrate on plugging & sealing the leak instead of trying to recover the oil for it profits, they might actually get something done????

These oil companies make billions of $$$ each quarter....each quarter! That's all profit! You would believe that some of this profit would include emergency response technology funds. They sure did make advancements in deep sea drilling, without modern technology to deal with an major oil spill. Where is this technology?
But the real sad part is, when its all said and done. BP will only inflate prices and still come out ahead! Take a look at those executives, do they look really worried. No, cause they know society is so depended on fossil fuel and WHEN?? they get this spill under control....it will be business as usual.

With that, so many questions arised......
  • What about the wildlife & its inhabitants?
  • Why was there no emergency plan in place for such an event?
  • What will be the long term damage to the environment?
  • Is it really time to invest our interest in alternative energy?
  • One question that personally has been bugging the heck out of me is....

"Is the oil/petroleum that we retrieve from our earth, have a much more important purpose?"
Mainly, like the oil we use to lubricate our vehicles. Does this oil also have the same purpose on our inner core? And yes, I understand that oil is created from the remains of animals and plants that lived millions of years ago. Formed of a mixtures of hydrocarbons, compounds of carbon, and hydrogen. But, does this mixture lubricate or cool earths inner core?
If you think about it, while we continously use up this fossil fuel (clearly at a rate we couldn't possible replace). Could this be resposible for our climate change, increased earthquakes or other phenomenals? Just an interesting concept. So I looked over the internet for any related data, very little but I did find a whether engrossing forum on this topic. Take a look.....
What natural purpose does petrolium/oil serve for the Earth!

Lets just pray that this "Top Kill" works....cause this spill is threating to Kill everything on TOP!
